Creating love yourself moments

I have always believed in the idea of being so full of love that it just overflows. Having a whole vat of happiness inside me would make it impossible not to share it with everyone, so it would seem smart to invest in things that would make me happy or feel loved.

This is a guide or, rather, a list of suggestions for generating “love yourself” moments. Everybody wants to be loved by somebody, and who better to do it with than our own self?

1. Enjoy a meal/beverage.

Sit down and take your time. Chew and sip slowly. No need to be in a rush! Put all your taste buds to work and enjoy whatever it is you’re eating. Take a look at those people in TV ads. They look like they’re having a really good time munching on that burger in slow motion.

Indulge in comfort food every so often. Doing it all the time would make it less and less special. But find a healthy food item or beverage that you enjoy and can have every day, and make time to just relax and partake in it, like a coffee in the morning or tea before bed.

2. Get lost!

No matter where it is in the world, there are always places to explore. Make it a walk-a-thon or a leisurely drive, city romp, or nature-seek. Traveling solo is a great time to clear the head and be an adventurer. There are some places where you just can’t help but be happy, and the fun part is finding those places!

Swim around the pond and hop to other ponds too! The world is a pretty big and beautiful place. There’s more to it than what’s in your hometown.

3. Go on a date…

With yourself! There is absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying one’s own company. In fact, it might be one of the most right things a person can do. Go ahead and watch that movie that seemed really awesome, window-shop to your heart’s content or sit in a comfy coffee shop with a good read. This is a great way to identify things that you enjoy and might be worth doing again with or without someone else.

4. Come with your own background music.

Music can be very influential on our mood and outlook. Pick out a happy tune to play in your head or listen to while you are in transit. This allows for a more positive perspective.

When the pressure is on, cue in the motivational songs. Think “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor or “The Fighter” by Gym Class Heroes. In the time of war and skirmishes, a person would be appointed to blow a horn or beat drums in order to boost morale among the warriors. So when you’re getting ready for battle, hit play on the get-psyched playlist.

5. Do nothing.

Give in to your bed. After working so hard to meet deadlines and keeping the house standing, there is no better reward than a very well-deserved sleep. Many studies have linked getting a good night’s sleep with improvements in performance and well-being. Not to mention, how wonderful it feels to not have to set the alarm the next morning!
