Carefree birds hovered across the sky,
Clouds motioned as the wind blew by.
A question out of wonder tickled me,
“Just like them, am I really free?”
Life has given us the greatest gift of choice,
In free will, we were able to hear our voice.
I have chosen the desire whispered by my heart,
To be passion-driven; like a work of art.
Sing melodies of praise and write words of grace,
These are just some in my passion race.
It has been my comfort within the core.
But then, God whispered to me more.
“I am calling you to go further,
Beyond mountain ranges and strict borders.”
I was taken aback for I was afraid.
The road seems unclear. Will I be okay?
Happy for others how certain their choices were,
But pity for self as I pondered what He had whispered.
Tried a way to understand by conforming to the world,
Of being like the others and not the odd.
But just like a bird inside the cage,
I realized I was enslaved.
To expectations and fallacy,
I, then, lived in walls of mediocrity.
If choice is free and our will is life’s leading,
Why, then, do we have to go through such undertaking?
God pats my head as He tells tenderly,
“My child, it is because you turned to the world instead of Me.”
“There are desires that your heart wants,
But some I didn’t note in my perfect plan.
Let go of them and just let me,
Free your heart from every worry.”
“For freedom is not about the choices you make.
It’s an act of surrender that you need to partake.
Cast your cares upon Me and you will see,
How I wanted you to be free.”
I thank God for His reminder.
I was led back to Him, my Master.
His love, grace, and peace now rest in me,
I am now released for He has made free.
I looked up and saw the birds hover across the sky.
They let the wind lead them as they fly.
I felt the freedom. It was real!
Because I let God take hold of my wheel.
