Is it worth it?

I believe that we are called by God to love unconditionally. It means to love without expecting to be loved in return, and to love everyone, including those we find difficult.

But as I tried to love the way God wants me to love, I found myself raising questions to myself and eventually to God, “Why am I doing this? Why will I love unconditionally if the people I want to love keep on rejecting and neglecting me? How can I love the person who doesn’t even care, who continuously seeks for love in worldly things?”

As I complain on how hard it is to love unconditionally, God simply led me to the cross and showed me why. He showed me through the cross that He loved me first, even when I did not and never will deserve His love. He opened my eyes to His standards of love, which is beyond that of the world. He allowed me to realize that I know little about the love that He wanted me to share to others – His kind of LOVE.

Now, I am able to see love as a privilege, not a duty. I am honored to have the opportunity to share His love to the people who have yet to recognize this. It is in doing so that I can fulfill my role of reminding them that Jesus also died for them and that His love is for us all.

As I learn to love unconditionally, I also benefit from it. I learned a lot about myself and my capacity to love. I have developed my personal relationship with God through my constant prayers for strength and patience. I encounter more people to love and learn more about love from them. As I love, God teaches me how to forgive, and makes me realize how beautiful to live life with less hatred in my heart.

To love unconditionally is truly a sweet sacrifice. Well, is it worth it? Definitely!
